18. LEL: N/A
19. Extinguishing Media: Water Spray, Carbon Dioxide or Foam
20. Special Fire-Fighting Procedures: Possible dust explosion if dispersed in large quantities
21. Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Firefighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus to avoid inhalation of smoke or vapors.

SECTION IV — HEALTH HAZARD DATA
22. Threshold Limit Values: The OSHA PEL for nuisance dust is 15 mg/m3
  • The ACGIH TLV for nuisance dust is 10 mg/m3
  • The ACGIH TLV and OSHA PEL for vinyl acetate are both set at 10 ppm for an 8-hour TWA and at 15 ppm for the STEL
23. Acute Overexposure Information
  • Effects of Overexposure
  • Eyes: May cause slight irritation or redness
  • Skin: May cause irritation or rash
  • Inhalation: Heated vapors may cause irritation of the respiratory tract
24. Primary route(s) of entry: Inhalation of dust or heated fumes
25. Toxicological Information: Vinyl acetate monomer (108-05-4) is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B). An inhalation study using laboratory animals exposed to high concentrations of vinyl acetate for 6 hours per day, 5 days per week over a two-year period resulted in the development of nasal tumors. Some of these tumors were shown to be carcinomas. However, at this time, there is not sufficient evidence to indicate that vinyl acetate may cause cancer in humans. There should be minimal risk when used with ventilation adequate to maintain atmospheric concentrations of vinyl acetate below the recommended exposure limit.
26. Vinyl Acetate Monomer:
LD50 (Oral/Rat) 2920 Mg/Kg; LD50 (DRML/Rabbit) 2335 Mg/Kg; LC50 (INHL/Rat) 4000 ppm/2h

SECTION V — EMERGENCY AND FIRST-AID PROCEDURES

SECTION VI — SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES
35. Steps to be taken in case material is released or spilled: Sweep up and place in a closed container. Wear a dust mask if dust is created. This material contains the following ingredient which if spilled or released in quantities equal to or greater than the Reportable Quantity (RQ), are subject to the reporting requirements or CERCLA and/or SARA (40 CFR parts 302 and 355):
36. Vinyl Acetate Monomer RQ Value = 5000 lbs.
37. Waste Disposal Method: At this time, this material or its containers would not be considered hazardous wastes as defined under the federal RCRA regulations (40 CFR 261) if discarded. Care should be taken to ensure the material or its containers are disposed of in an approved facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
